Human Rights Defender, Jamal Abdullah Khamis and his colleagues, documented abuses during waves of attacks by the Rapid Support Forces and allied militias in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur state in Sudan. These forces attacked the predominantly Massalit areas of El Geneina, killing, raping, and torturing people as well as assailing people displaced by previous bouts of violence, and at times, destroying whole neighborhoods. The onslaught targeted Massalit and other non-Arab groups in a campaign of ethnic cleansing – with atrocities that amounted to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
